Driving Profitable Growth

This morning I went to hear my friend Bill Guest of Metrics Reporting give a talk to our local technology council on "Driving Profitable Growth". He has a lot of interesting things to say. If you want to hear his full presentation, check his web site for his class schedule.

One of his productivity oriented comments was that when organizations are managed by objective measurements they best meet the three needs of employees. These are:

  1. People want to be treated with dignity and respect.
  2. People like to make a contribution.
  3. People want to be noticed for what they do.

The application of this is that strategies need to be refined into actions that can be measured. When people can work toward a measured goal all three of the above needs can be met.
